JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Saint Peter's women's soccer team bagged its first win of the 2026 season in a home contest against the LIU Sharks.


WHAT HAPPENED:
FIRST HALF:
The Peacocks (1-2-) started the game hot with sophomore forward, Mayla McLean, getting on the score sheet in the opening three minutes of play. McLean struck the ball from outside the 18-yard box to score a stunner in the top left of the goal.

Saint Peter's was rolling after taking the lead. They took three shots within three minutes, with McLean registering two of those. However, the Peacocks' initial lead did not last very long, as LIU's (0-4) Flavie Boulanger broke through in the 12th minute to level the game.

The LIU Sharks had a chance to take the lead in the 21st minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Freshman goalkeeper Lily Sarris made a diving save to protect the Peacocks' goal.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, McLean found the back of the net once again after senior midfielder Julia Pinho Magno had a brief stint in front of the LIU goal to assist McLean.

The Peacocks went into the half with a 2-1 lead. The Peacocks also led 7-4 in shots.

SECOND HALF:
The Sharks started the second half with early pressure on the Peacocks' defense. The Sharks registered three corner kicks in three minutes between the 51 to 54 minute mark. 

LIU had eight shot attempts in the second half, with one opportunity ricocheting off the crossbar. Sarris had a dominant second half, where she made five saves compared to her one in the first half of the game. 

The Sharks also registered 4 corner kicks in the second half, but the Peacock's dominant defense could not be broken.
