JERSEY CITY, N.J – Freshman
Victoria Pruvost led the way with nine kills as the Saint Peter's women's volleyball team fell short to Delaware State 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 23-25, 19-25) in their home opener on Wednesday night.
The Peacocks (0-4, 0-0 Metro) fought hard against the Hornets (4-0, 0-0 MEAC) in the first match of 2026 in the friendly Run Baby Run Arena.
Pruvost led the way with nine kills and two block assists, while
Markela Tsagkopoulou added eight kills and five digs.
Julia Whaley added six kills, two aces, five block assists and four digs.
Valeria Pagan Munoz totaled
eight digs, three block assists and five kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE: The teams battled through early action with Saint Peter's holding a 13-12 lead. The Peacocks ripped off five straight points to take control of the set and push ahead for a 25-20 win.
SET TWO: Delaware State jumped out to an early 9-6 lead. Saint Peter's rallied back as
Pagan Munoz started the five-point run with a kill to pull ahead 11-9. The Hornets answered, scoring 10 of the next 13 points to lead 19-14 and held on for a 25-19 victory to even the match.
SET THREE: The teams traded early leads with the Peacocks holding a 12-9 lead. Delaware State battled back to even the set at 12 but
Indira T. Benitez Dumeng netted a kill to help Saint Peter's push ahead 14-13. The Hornets answered with six straight points to pull ahead 19-14. Pruvost tallied a kill, while Whaley has back to back service aces to cut the score to 20-18. Delaware State matches the Peacocks in the waning moments of the set to win 25-23.
SET FOUR: Saint Peter's rumbled out to a 9-4 lead early in the set with kills from Benitex Dumeng, Whaley and
Addison Biglio. The Hornets pulled even at 10 but the Peacocks answered, led by two kills from
Tsagkopoulou to retake the lead at 15-11. Delaware State scored seven of the next eight points to lead 18-16 and held on for the set win at 25-19.
