JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Peacock (1-11, 1-0 METRO) grabbed their first conference win of the season as they beat Siena in four sets (25-11, 21-25, 25-21, 29-27)
This would be the first win against Siena since Spetember 30th, 2018, Saint Peter's recorded 61 kills and 58 assists, along with 14 aces, to beat the Saint Bernards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE-
Saint Peter struck first within the opening minutes of set one with an ace by Alondra Fargas. Shortly after, Siena would answer back, tying the set at 1-1
Meleksu Ozmen would go on a tear with two aces and an assist to help the Peacocks lead the set at 10-4
Ozmen would continue to pile on the points with the help of Victoria Pruvost and Addison Baglio as Ozmen added another two aces, Pruvost and Baglio getting a kill apiece to pull the Peacocks closer to winning the first set.
Siena continued to struggle on the attack as they were only able to get a couple of kills of their own to bring the set to 19-7
The Saint Bernards would go on to add two additional kills to bring the lead down to 24-11
The set would end with Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez getting a kill to end the set at 25-11
SET TWO-
The second set would start similarly to the first, with the Peacocks getting on the board first with a kill from Valeria Pagan Munoz, with Siena answering back with a kill of their own.
The Saint Bernards would go on to make two substitutions following Munoz's kill, afterwards Baglio and Indria T. Benitez Dumeng would both get kills to bring the Peacocks up by two.
Siena would respond with three kills to tie the game at 3-3, in addition to an attack error and an ace to take the lead from SPU, leading the Peacocks to call a timeout.
Peacocks would begin taking the lead back, starting with two kills from Baglio to bring the set to 5-9
Julia Whaley would get a kill following an Ozmen assist; shortly after, the Peacocks would begin gaining momentum as they tied the set at 11-11 after an ace from Fargas.
Siena would get a point shortly after to take the lead back at 11-12.
Baglio and Mendez would add another set of kills to help take the lead at 15-12 in Peacocks' favor.
The set would continue to be a back-and-forth as neither team wanted to give up the second set, with the Peacocks having an answer for everything the Saint Bernards threw at them.
Saint Peter's would later take the lead with a five-point run to bring their lead to 20-14 following a kill from Pruvost.
Siena would answer back with a three-point run of their own with a kill and two attack errors, leading to the Peacocks using their second and final timeout.
With the set sitting at 21-19, the Saint Bernards would go on a two-point run to tie the game, with the Peacocks answering back with a kill of their own.
SPU maintained their lead with the help of Whaley and Ionna Veveraki to end the set at 25-21 in the Peacocks' favor.
SET THREE-
In the third set, the Peacocks looked to close out the match by starting with an ace from Fargas; Siena would answer back with three kills to take the lead at 1-3
A service error would plague the Saint Bernards, and an ace from Munoz that tied the set at 4-4.
Following an attack error, SPU would sub in Pruvost and Meleksu back into the game.
Siena would begin pulling away early after two kills to bring their lead to 5-9; Saint Peter's would call their first timeout of the set.
After the timeout, Whaley and Purvost would get another set of kills to bring the set to 7-9. Siena would get two points on the board to push ahead with a service error and a kill.
Soon after, both teams would go point for point, and Siena looked to pull away following an attack error.
Munoz would get another kill to cut Siena's lead to 4, having the set sit at 11-15. The Saint Bernards would go on a four-point run that would be interrupted by two kills from Munoz and Pruvost.
After a kill from Siena, SPU would go on a four-point run to bring the set to 20-23.
Siena would go on a two-point run shortly after to end the set at 21-25 in favor of the Saint Bernards.
SET FOUR-
With Saint Peter's holding a 2-1 lead in the match, they would strike first again with a kill from Mendez.
Siena would go on a three-point run following a substitution from the Saint Bernards.
Ozmen would have three aces to take the lead from Siena, to have the set sit at 6-4 in favor of the Peacocks.
It would be another set where SPU and Siena would engage in a tug-of-war till the Peacocks began to pull away with a kill from Whaley to bring them to 15-13.
Siena would go on a five-point run to take the lead after a kill from Pruvost as the set was at 19-17.
Siena added an additional three-point run, which would lead to SPU calling their final timeout of the set.
After the timeout, Benitez and Munoz went on to get a total of three kills to cut the lead to 22-23; Siena would then commit an attack error to help SPU tie the set.
After a service error in favor of Siena and a kill from Whaley, the set was tied again at 24-24; soon after, Mendez would get a kill to take the lead.
Siena and the Saints would continue to tie till Mendez got another kill and finally an attack error to end the final set at 29-27 in favor of Peacocks.
