EDISON, NJ – Saint Peter's men's basketball redshirt-senior guard
Davauhnte Turner was named to the All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Third Team, announced by the league office on Monday.
Turner averaged 16.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game in the regular season. He led the Peacocks in scoring in 22 out of 30 games this season and scored in double-figures in all but five games, surpassing 20 points 11 times and 30 points once. His season-high 31-point effort against Niagara on January 22 was the second most points in a game by any conference player at the time and ended as the fifth highest scoring output this season. Turner's efforts this season earned him Pepsi Zero MAAC Male Student-Athlete of the Week honors for the week of February 25, and Saint Peter's Student-Athlete of the Month honors for the month of January.
Since the start of the season, Turner ranked top-5 in conference scoring, spending the bulk of the year as the league's second leading scorer. He ended the regular season ranked fourth on the conference overall scoring list and sixth in scoring on the conference games only charts. Turner also ranked amongst the MAAC-best sitting at fourth in free throw percentage, ninth in 3-point field goals made, and 15th in both assists and steals.
Turner is the first Peacock in two seasons to make an All-League team, following in the footsteps of his former teammates Quadir Welton '17 and Trevis Wyche '17 who earned spots on the All-MAAC First and Second Teams respectively following the 2016-17 season. He is the first Saint Peter's Third Team honoree since Marvin Dominique '14 made it in 2013-14.
The Peacocks will head to the Times Union Center in Albany, NY for the 2019 MAAC Championship as the No. 9 seed. The Peacocks will open up the tournament with a first round matchup against No. 8 Marist on Thursday, March 7 at 5 p.m.
