Douglas Nover Receives NCAA Ethnic Minority Graduate Scholarship

Nover is one of 26 recipients of the NCAA scholarship

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Cross country and track runner, senior Douglas Nover has been awarded with the Ethnic Minority Graduate Scholarship by the NCAA. Upon his graduation from Saint Peter's in May, Nover will use the scholarship to attend Virginia Commonwealth University for a one-year graduate program in the Master's of Sports Leadership program.

The Ethnic Minority and Women's Enhancement Graduate Scholarship were developed by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics and the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interests Committee. The goal of the enhancement programs is to increase the pool of and opportunities for qualified minority and female candidates in intercollegiate athletics through graduate scholarships. The NCAA awards $10,000 to 13 ethnic minorities and 13 female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of graduate studies. The applicant must be seeking admission or have been accepted into a sports administration or program that will help the applicant obtain a career in intercollegiate athletics, such as athletics administrator, coach, athletic trainer or a career that provides a direct service to intercollegiate athletics.

"I feel extremely grateful, honored, and humbled to receive the NCAA Ethnic Minority Scholarship. I would like to thank the NCAA Minority Opportunities and Interest Committee for selecting me as one recipient for the scholarship because this scholarship will help assist me with my goal of becoming an Athletic Director after I earn a Master's of Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University," said Nover. "Without the support from my family, friends, and mentors, none of this would be possible as they push me each day to become a better person so that I can reach my goals."

Nover, along with the other recipients of the scholarship, will attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum (CSF). The CSF is an annual educational forum held June 6-9, 2019 in Indianapolis that brings together 200 selected student-athletes and scholarship recipients for four days to learn and explore potential careers in sports, with the primary focus on intercollegiate athletics. The CSF is designed to assist attendees in charting their career paths, to give them the opportunity to network and to learn from current athletics professionals. The cost of airfare, lodging, meals and program materials will be covered by the NCAA.

Nover has placed top-10 in the steeplechase in three meets this spring season to lead the Peacocks. During the indoor season, he served as a leg on the men's 4x800 relay team.

Off the track, Nover serves as the Saint Peter's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president and holds the title of MAAC SAAC Vice Chair for the conference. He is a four-time selection to the MAAC All-Academic team and he was also just one of two 2018 recipients of the NCAA AASP Career Development Award.

In the classroom, Nover holds a 3.97 grade point average in Business Management with a minor in Sports Management. In October, he was inducted to the Most Noble Order of the Peacock; the oldest scholarship society of the University which is bestowed upon 12 senior students who have attained the highest scholastic average in all courses for their first three years at Saint Peter's.
