JERSEY CITY, NJ - After a soccer career at Saint Peter's,
Kelsey Nugent '19 is spending her summer gaining valuable experience in the professional field.
Nugent, a former women's soccer player, is interning with Rutgers Athletics in the Operations, Facilities, and Events Department. Nugent is serving as the event manager for events held at Rutgers' facilities throughout the summer and also is helping the Scarlet Knights prepare for the upcoming competition seasons.
Her responsibilities include creating visiting team guides and packets and contacting other Big Ten schools to find out their game day preferences. Other responsibilities include representing Rutgers at events like graduations, baseball tournaments, and tours. At these events, she ensures that Rutgers facilities are at the best of their ability and she serves as support if any assistance is needed.
"My favorite part of my internship is that I've been given a lot of trust and responsibility," Nugent said. "For example, I'm given access to all facilities and I am the sole representative of Rutgers at the events I manage.
"I have been able to apply a tremendous amount of things that I learned at Saint Peter's to my internship," added Nugent. "As an athletics intern, I learned to always be willing to do things even if it's out of my comfort zone and as a soccer player I learned to communicate well. When all the interns are working on the same project, I try to take the lead and create a plan to ensure no one repeats what needs to be done and it can be done in the most effective way."
Following her internship at Rutgers, Nugent will serve as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Administrative Fellow for the 2019-2020 school year.
