JERSEY CITY, NJ - Saint Peter's University Athletics has announced that women's track & field senior
Avosuahi Albert and men's basketball rookie
Doug Edert have been named Student-Athletes of the Month.
Albert, a senior sprinter on the track & field program, finished the first month of the indoor track season with a first-place finish in the 400-meters race at the Yale Season Openers in New Haven on Dec. 7. She was one of two runners to finish in under a minute (58.13 seconds). Her time is the second-fastest time in the MAAC Conference this season, just two seconds the league leader. Her time was also two seconds faster than her showing at the same event the previous season, (1:00.21 at 2018 Yale Opener).
Edert proved to be a key contributor to the men's basketball team's offense during the month of December. The three-point specialist connected on a combined 11-of-20 triples over the month's five games, making him one of the nation's top three-point shooters. He shot 55 percent from beyond the arc, leading the MAAC and placing him on the NCAA charts. Throughout the month, Edert remained ranked in the nation's top-four in the category and following Christmas break, Edert's 57.1 three-point field goal percentage was the best in the country. Over the final month of the 2019 calendar year, he averaged 8.6 points per game, second best on the team, and the freshman was just one of two players to start in all five games. Edert's best game came against FDU when he scored 14 points and recorded a game and career-high five assists in the home game. He also scored eight or more points in four out of the five games played.
