Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season at ECAC/IC4A Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Championship season continued for the Saint Peter's University track and field teams this weekend as the Peacocks competed in the three-day ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships at American International College.

Several Peacocks competed as individuals while others joined forces in relay events. In the end, several student-athletes came away with exceptional efforts against a deep, competitive field in the final competition before qualifiers are announced for the 2021 NCAA Championships this coming week.

Top Performances: Men
  • Sophomore Jabari Higgs-Salaam was runner-up in the long jump this weekend with a distance of 7.27 meters. The mark is his second-best performance in the event during his collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Jarrett Gentles took a top-10 placement in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.40 seconds.
  • The quartet of freshman Delano Gooden and Javon Jenkins, redshirt sophomore Rayshawn Johnson and graduate student Brandon Campbell competed in the 4x100 relay and clocked in at 42.75 seconds.
  • Johnson also took part in the 110-hurdle preliminaries and came across the line in 15.47 seconds.
Top Performances: Women
  • The team of freshmen Jewel Dale, Abigail Vital, Alexus Smith and redshirt sophomore Lorretta Owoh, set the season-record for the Peacocks in the 4x100-meter relay at 48.90 seconds. The mark puts Saint Peter's in a tie for third in the conference for the 2021 outdoor campaign.
  • Dale, Vital and Smith would also join forces with sophomore Tola Osipitan to set the season-record in the 4x400-meter relay at 4:00.80. This breaks the mark that Saint Peter's had set at the MAAC Championships (4:04.13).
  • Owoh also took part in the triple jump against a highly talented field and came out with her second-best mark in the event at 11.27 meters.
Up Next
After a tremendous past two months since the outdoor circuit began in late March, the Peacocks will now await to see if any student-athletes have qualified for the 2021 NCAA East Regional Championships when the official field is revealed this coming week.
