JERSEY CITY, NJ – Following one of the most challenging athletics and academics years in recent history, the Saint Peter's University men's basketball team yet again outdid themselves in the classroom, achieving historic success for the program during spring 2021.
With the term concluding and final grades submitted, the Peacocks recorded a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.38 for the semester. Of the team's 11 student-athletes, nine successfully achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA, five made the Dean's List with a GPA above a 3.5 -- the most ever by the program -- and one posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Six returning student-athletes achieved a GPA of 3.4 or better, consisting of sophomores
Daryl Banks III,
Fousseyni Drame,
Hassan Drame,
Doug Edert,
Matthew Lee, and freshman
Marty Silvera. All-league guard Banks led the way, earning the team's only 4.0 GPA. Banks was joined by his classmates Edert (3.94),
Fousseyni Drame (3.93), and
Hassan Drame (3.93) on the Dean's List. The guard combo of Lee (3.48) and Silvera (3.4) rounded out the group.
The quintet of Banks, the Drame Twins, Edert, and Lee also set the team's standard for MAAC All-Academic Team honorees following the 2020-21 Men's Basketball campaign in March, which was tied for the conference lead this season.
