JERSEY CITY, N.J. (Jan. 21, 2021) - The Saint Peter's University men's basketball road contest scheduled for Friday, Feb. 18 against Fairfield University has been elevated to be showcased on national television on ESPNU at 7:00 p.m. inside Webster Bank Arena.
The contest was selected as one of the top games in the MAAC this season and will feature a rematch of the 2021 MAAC Tournament Semifinals. SPU and Fairfield currently sit in second and seventh place, respectively, in the conference standings.
The MAAC Wildcard Game format allows ESPN to pick any game scheduled for that specific date to air on ESPNU and allows the MAAC and ESPN the flexibility to showcase the best matchups as the season progresses. Future MAAC wildcard matchups will be announced at later dates.
It is the second time this season a Peacock men's basketball contest has been selected as the flex game for the linear network. SPU previously played on ESPNU Friday, Feb. 4 at home when they knocked off Quinnipiac 83-74.
The Peacocks were also featured on FS1 for a road contest at St. John's and FS2 in a matchup at Providence College.
It will be the first of two meetings between SPU and Fairfield this season with the second contest coming to close the regular season on March 5 at 1:00 p.m. inside Run Baby Run Arena.
The 2021-22 campaign culminates with the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships from March 8-12 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
