Dear Friends of Saint Peter's University Athletics,
The last time I wrote this letter, who would've known that the two weeks that followed would see us make history in every sense of the word. Of course, you know that I'm referring to the unprecedented, incredible and amazing run by our men's basketball program that saw them reach the Elite Eight round of the 2022 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, becoming the first #15 seed in the history of the tournament to do so. Along the way, they captivated the country with stunning wins over storied programs such as Kentucky, Purdue and Murray State to round out the greatest Cinderella run of all time! They truly were the darlings of this year's installment of March Madness, and the impact they had not only on our athletics department, but all of Saint Peter's University and Jersey City is immeasurable. Simply put: what an amazing month!
And while there was some bittersweet news as we bid farewell to head coach Shaheen Holloway, who accepted the same post at his alma mater, Seton Hall, I am so excited for the start of the Bashir Mason era, which officially got underway this week after we welcomed him as our 16th head coach in program history on Wednesday. I have the utmost confidence that, with Bashir at the helm, we will not only miss a beat, but continue to rise to greater heights under his leadership.
Elsewhere in Peacock Nation, spring has sprung, and our programs are making plenty of noise on their respective playing surfaces. The softball team is enjoying its best season in 15 years, while the golf and outdoor track & field teams have fared well as each of them gears up for their MAAC Championships. The baseball squad has also been battling day in and day out, and they'll have plenty of home games later this month as the calendar turns to May, so make your way down to Jaroschak Field to support them (and softball) with warmer weather on the horizon!
Finally, we're less than two months out from the 2022 William J. & John Murray Peacock Athletics Golf Outing, which will be held on Monday, June 13. We can't wait to see you there for our most important fundraising event on the Peacock Nation calendar!
Once again, thank you for your continued support of Saint Peter's University Athletics. An early Happy Easter to those that celebrate it - stay healthy, stay safe and GO PEACOCKS!
Sincerely,
Rachelle Paul
Director of Athletics
