Holloway, Ndefo and Banks III All Garner Honors from All-Met Basketball Writers

Holloway becomes first coach since 1991 to be named MBWA Coach of the Year

NEW YORK (April 25, 2022) - After the stellar run that culminated in a trip to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, three members of the 2021-22 Saint Peter's University men's basketball program earned All-Met Basketball Writers Association honors for their impressive efforts on the court this season.

Shaheen Holloway was named the MBWA Peter A. Carlesimo Coach of the Year, KC Ndefo earned Second Team All-Met honors and Daryl Banks III landed on the All-Met Third Team after winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title for the first time since 2011 and winning an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in program history.

Holloway became the first Peacocks' head coach since Ted Fiore in 1991 to earn the prestigious Coach of the Year award from the MBWA after leading SPU to a 22-12 overall record. Holloway guided the Peacocks to a second place finish in the MAAC regular season standings and then all the way to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament with wins over national powerhouses Kentucky, Murray State and Purdue along the way to become the first MAAC team and the first ever #15 seed to advance to a Regional Final.

Ndefo, meanwhile, earned All-Met honors for the third consecutive season after being named Second Team All-Met in 2021 and garnering Third Team honors in 2020. The 2022 Lefty Driesell National Player of the Year, Ndefo finished his senior campaign in a big way breaking his own school record with 96 blocked shots on the season. Ndefo, who also was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year, finished his career with 310 blocks, the second most among active players in Division I and averaged 10.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in his senior season.

Banks III, finally, earned All-Met honors for the first time in his career after leading the Peacocks with 11.3 points per game in 2021-22. The most consistent scorer for SPU all season, Banks III had possibly the best game of his collegiate career in the opening round win over Kentucky with 27 points going 5 for 8 from 3-point range. Also a Third Team All-MAAC selection, Banks III scored in double figures 20 times on the season.

The MBWA encompasses 69 Met area college men's and women's teams across Divisions I, II and III, including 21 schools in Division I.

The All-Met teams are scheduled to be honored at the 89th MBWA Haggerty Awards dinner on Monday evening, April 25, at the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown, NY. The event is to be live streamed via the MBWA website.
