LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - Saint Peter's women's basketball defeated the Rider Broncs Saturday afternoon by a score of 55-54. Sophomore Fatmata Janneh and Louella Allana scored in double-figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Redshirt sophomore Nikola Zdenkova got the Peacocks rolling early, sinking a three-pointer to open the scoring. Louella Allana added another from deep, keeping the momentum alive. As the first quarter wound down, Fatmata Janneh drilled a clutch three to give Saint Peter's a 12-10 lead heading into the break.
Freshman forward De'Naya Rippey attacked the rim with confidence, while Janneh followed up in the paint. Saint Peter's caught fire from beyond the arc, shooting 50% from three-point range.With a balanced offensive effort, Saint Peter's maintained control, heading into halftime with a 30-23 lead.
Janneh sparked the Peacocks in the third quarter with a smooth hook shot, followed by a strong driving layup. Allana stayed hot from deep, draining another three-pointer, while graduate guard Laila Grant attacked the rim. Janneh kept the momentum going with a mid-range jumper as Saint Peter's shot 43.8% from the floor, maintaining a 46-39 lead heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Rider chipped away at the Peacocks' lead, applying pressure down the stretch. Rippey drained a clutch three-pointer to chip away at the Broncs' lead.Janneh knocked down a crucial three-pointer to extend the Peacocks' lead. The Broncs responded, tying the game with a three of their own, but Janneh answered back with a key free throw, securing a one-point edge. Her clutch play helped seal the victory for Saint Peter's, 55-54.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Fatmata Janneh put up a solid performance with 18 points in 34 minutes of play. She shot seven-of-17 (41.2%) from the field, including three-of-seven (42.9%) from beyond the arc. Janneh also contributed on the boards, grabbing 11 rebounds, 10 of which were defensive, and dished out four assists.
Louella Allana played a key role for Saint Peter's, contributing 13 points in 39 minutes of action. She shot five-of-14 (35.7%) from the field and connected on three-of-nine (33.3%) from beyond the arc. In addition to her scoring, Allana facilitated the offense with five assists and added two steals on the defensive end.
