PISCATAWAY, NJ– The Saint Peter's track and field programs gear up for Rutgers University's annual Rutgers Relays at the Bauer Track and Field Complex in Piscataway, NJ, Saturday, April 11.
Field events begin at 9 a.m. with the men's hammer throw, while track events start at 9:30 a.m. with the men's 3000m steeplechase.
LAST TIME OUT
The Peacocks put together a strong string of performances at the Metropolitan Championships track meet over the weekend, collecting six medals between the programs, with the men's team tallying two individual golds and a relay victory.
The women's team finished sixth out of 13 teams, while the men placed fifth overall.
Connor Ziolkowski claimed first place in the 400m hurdles, edging FDU's Bikramjit Singh by three hundredths of a second with a time of 55.73.
The 4x800m relay squad of
Michael Amaker, Ziolkowski
, Gerardo Quaglia, and
Johan Aparicio finished third with a time of 8:35.15.
The 4x400m quartet of
Favour Owolabi, Brian Yeager, Ajani Peck-Wekunda, and
Cashieve Blair sprinted to gold, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the field with a time of 3:13.47.
Blair also claimed gold in the 400m with a time of 47.00, finishing more than a second ahead of the field. His performance earned him MAAC Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Karilynn Jimenez secured the lone track medal for the women's team, sprinting to a bronze finish in the 100m with a time of 12.21, while
Lourdes Lawson earned the only field medal, claiming silver in the shot put with a throw of 11.90m (39' 1.25").
PREVIEWING SOME OF THE COMPETITION
Rutgers
Rutgers has competed in five meets to start the outdoor season, including the USF Alumni Invitational, Miami's Hurricane Invitational, the Raleigh Relays, the UCF Knights Invitational, and Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational.
At their most recent meet, the Sam Howell Invitational, they recorded a pair of performances that landed on the program's top-10 all-time list in the men's 3000m steeplechase and pole vault.
At UCF, Rutgers took first place in the women's long jump, with Paige Floriea posting a mark of 6.03m (19' 9.5"). Tey'ana Ames narrowly missed the program record in the shot put, finishing third.
On the men's side, Rutgers swept the long jump, going 1-2-3, led by Sincere Robinson with a leap of 7.63m. Donavan Anderson (7.36m) and Zach Love (7.24m) followed.
FDU
FDU has competed in four meets to open the outdoor season, including the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite, the Peacock Invitational, the Rider 5-Way, and the Metropolitan Championships.
At the Metropolitan Championships, the men's team captured the team title with 179 points, while the women finished second with 96 points.
The men were led by Xavier Hayletts, Ethan Ruffin, and the 4x800m relay team, all of whom won their respective events. Ruffin also earned Men's Field Event MVP honors after clearing 2.10m in the high jump.
The women's squad was led by Tata Coulibaly, who captured first place in the 100m hurdles.
Monmouth
Monmouth has competed in two meets this outdoor season: the Monmouth Home Opener and Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational.
At the Sam Howell Invitational, the Hawks were led by Anna Hoffman, who placed first in the 800m, and Julia Thomas, who finished second in the shot put on the women's side.
On the men's side, Aiden Baldelli placed third in the 100m and first in the 200m, while Michael Card took second in the 800m. Andrew Beers added a first-place finish in the 400m hurdles.
