Karolina Rodriguez's 11 Kills Help Put Peacocks Over Rider In Three Sets

JERSEY CITY, N.J.- The Peacocks (2-12, 1-1 METRO) open their week with their second conference win as they took on Rider in three sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-11)

Saint Peter's recorded 40 kills and 34 assists in addition to six aces in their victory over the Broncs on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED-

SET ONE-

SPU earned a point off an attack error to start the game, and soon after Addison Baglio got a quick kill to put the Peacocks up by two.

Rider answered with two kills to tie the game at two apiece; both teams fought for the lead until later in the set, when Rider pulled away with a four-point run.

With help from Valeria Pagan Munoz, they would put up two more points to have the set at 14-15.

Rider would then add a kill and an ace to increase the gap by two points, forcing SPU to use their first timeout of the set.

Right after the timeout, Baglio would add a kill to her line to close the gap, with the Broncs showing no sign of slowing down.

Karolina T. Rodriguez Mendez added two kills of her own in addition to three straight attack errors caused by Alondra Fargas to tie the set at 20-20.

The Peacocks would begin to pull away as Rodriguez began to put on a clinic with two additional kills, making Rider use their last timeout of the set.

The Broncs answered back with two kills to close the lead to one point, and SPU would use their final timeout of the set.

After the timeout, Natasha Tejada added a kill to her stats following an ace by Meleksu Ozmen to close out the set at 25-22 in the Peacocks favor.

SET TWO-

Similar to the first set, Rider opened up the scoreboard with a kill, followed by Valeria Pagan Munoz getting a kill off an Ozmen assist.

Victoria Pruvost got herself on the stat sheet with a kill to begin giving the Peacocks momentum. Later in the set, SPU would score four more points with a kill from Munoz and an attack error caused by Alicia Valladares.

The Peacocks would begin raining down the points as they strengthened the gap between them and Rider, with Ozmen forcing an attack error to have the set at 13-8, forcing the Broncs to use their first timeout of the set.

Rider would get back on the board with a service error, which was short-lived as Baglio would go on to get a kill, making it the fourth kill of the match.

The offensive barrage would continue as the Peacocks went on a four-point run, with Ioanna Ververaki playing a role as she would get an ace and force an attack error.

With the set sitting at 10-18 following a kill from Pruvost, Rider would answer back with a kill of their own.

Saint Peter's began closing out the set as piled on the points with Rider having no answer.

The set would end with a service error giving The Peacocks the point to end it at 25-16

SET THREE-

Saint Peter's would open the set with a kill from Julia Whaley followed by a kill from Rider.

With the Broncs having a one-point lead, SPU would go on to sub in Fargas and Tejada, with Mendez getting a kill shortly after.

Fargas would make her presence known by forcing two attack errors to have the set sit at 6-4.

With Rider refusing to quit, they would get a kill later in the set to cut SPUs' lead at 10-7. Soon after, Whaley and Pruvost would get a kill each to push the lead to 14-8, with Ozmen getting four assists to her name.

As the set continued, SPU went on a seven-to-two point run where Mendez and Baglio would continue being a problem for the Broncs.

Rodriguez would lay the final blow as she would get her 11th and final kill of the night, sending Rider home in three sets, with the final set ending at 25-11
