Men’s Golf Begins Spring Stretch in South Jersey

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Saint Peter's men's golf returns to its 2021-22 season for the start of the spring slate this weekend at Iona's South Jersey Spring Kick in Ocean View, N.J.

The two-day tournament at the Shore Gate Country Club marks the Peacocks' fifth of the season and first of a five-tournament spring that will culminate April 22-24 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships.

Recapping the fall
  • Saint Peter's finished its opening half of the season strong with two top-seven individual finishes at the last two tournaments.
  • Senior Jimmy Apostolico tied for fourth in the 48-golfer field at the Nassau Intercollegiate in Glen Cove, N.Y. He finished first among the 16 MAAC golfers in the event.
  • Senior Melvin Morales registered the highest finish of his senior season to date at the last event of the fall – the Metropolitan Championship. His seventh-place effort in a 63-golfer field at the Montclair Country Club in West Orange, N.J. was second-best among MAAC competitors.

  • Apostolico (T-4th place - Nassau Intercollegiate) and Morales (7th place - Metropolitan Championship) have the team's top two finishes so far this season.
  • Rossi led the team with five birdies and a two-over 74 opening round at the Columbia Autumn Invitational in early October.

Peacock Sophomores
  • Antonio Conde Ortega played in each of the four tournaments during the fall slate, finishing among the top three Peacocks in three of those events.
  • Adam Varela took part in two of the four tournaments to open the season, including a three-birdie effort in the opening round of the Columbia Autumn Invitational to help him finish third among Peacocks for the tournament.

Freshmen Class
  • Pablo Alvarez, David Cho and Evan Koutsopetras are the newcomers to the roster for the 2021-22 season.
  • Alvarez made his collegiate debut at the Metropolitan Championship in November.
  • Cho took part in his first tournament in the fall's penultimate event, the Nassau Intercollegiate.
